I was wondering if anyone might know the answer to my
rather serious problem. After upgrading my computer from
windows 98 to windows xp professional, the explorer
program will not work at all. I don't mean internet
explorer, I mean explorer, which I now know is the program
that allows you to click on a desktop icon to start a
program etc. My computer is a mess! Can anyone please help
me? I would be most grateful,
thank you,
Bryan

Do you mean Windows Explorer? Right click on an icon and
select properties. Thee should be a path to the program
related to the icon.
There are buttons on the properties page, one of which is
"find target" which will start a search to find the new
location of the program so it can be opened.
You may have had programs installed in non-standard
locations and XP did not find them when you installed XP
upgrade.

If the find target doesn't work for you, you might consider
other options to fix your problem. You can go to the
Start/all programs menu, right click and drag programs to
the desktop and select create shortcut. Remove the old
shortcuts first just to avoid confusion.
