View Full Version : F lock by the driver ?

I use a MS multimedia keyboard, but rather than using tne shortcuts of the
top row, i prefer the F1, F2, F3 functions

Is there a way to explain this to the driver, so that windows starts with
the F lock on, rather than off ?

Hi,

Visit this website http://www.mvps.org/jtsang/flock.html it has information
and gives you instructions on how to get F-lock to work at start-up rather
then the "enhanced" operation of those keys.

So there's no way that one can actually change the F-Lock
status, merely the way windows sees the keys? I have a
Logitech keyboard with one of those F-Locks and it
sometimes drives me crazy by being off. I've never once
desired to use those keys, so rather than swapping them,
I'd rather just set them to do the same stuff when the F-
Lock is off. I bought this keyboard for the other stuff
it has on it. There is one small lucky thing about it
though. This Logitech keyboard will remember the state
of the F-Lock key so long as I don't fully power off the
PC. It probably doesn't hurt that my BIOS has an option
that lets you use the keyboard to make it turn on, but I
think that's disabled. However, windows is set to be
able to come out of standby with this keyboard, so maybe
that'sthe main cause.

The F Lock status on the MS keyboards is not programmatically controllable.
The MS keyboards will retain the F Lock state until the keyboard is reset.
From my observations, this happens when Windows XP loads up (I suspect when
the keyboard driver is loaded).

You should be able to use the Scan Code Mapper to have the F keys "do the
same stuff when the F-Lock is off". Assuming I am interrepting your
statement properly, I also have a page with files that will do just that.
You should be able to use the Scan Code Mapper to do the same thing (just
substitute the appropriate scan codes for your logitech keyboard)

Hope that helps

I am trying to do just what you suggest, i.e. use the Scan Code Mapper
to have the F keys "do the same stuff when the F-Lock is off". I also
have a Logitech keyboard, but I don't know how to get the proper scan
codes for the custom F-keys. Is there some tool for that?
