My mother's computer went crazy and we had to get a new
motherboard and processor. Now we are getting a
lsass.exe error and have decided to reinstall XP. She
has a recovery CD that won't work because it thinks she
is installing it on a new system. We have payed money
for XP and now it won't let us use it. I have no idea
where to head next.

You paid for an OEM OS/CD that came with an OEM motherboard
and BIOS...Since you probably bought a retail motherboard,
rather than having the original OEM supply a replacement, I
think you must buy a new OS CD. You can buy an OEM MS CD
which is identical to a retail CD, except it cannot be moved
from machine to machine as you upgrade and you can only do a
clean install, you will lose all data on the disk.
Your best option is too bite the bullet and buy a retail OS
CD. MS might sell you a disk at a discount, call them on
their 800 number and ask.
