64 bit processor

Chances are that if you don't know what you have, you
have a 32-bit processor. Intel made a 64-bit processor,
but it wasn't x86 so you can't run normal operating
systems on it, but you have to get some compiled
specifically for it. It is called Alpha, hence the a in
the IA64. AMD has only JUST come out with a 64-bit
processor that is also backwards compatible, but they are
targeting businesses and it's extremely expensive and
hard to get right now. It's basically impossible that
you would have such a thing without knowing it. I belive
it is called the Opteron or something pretty close.
Anyway, if you currently have windows running, go to your
control panel, and open the system program. It will say
what processor you have. I'm betting you either have a
Pentium or an Athlon, those are both 32-bit.

Yes. Currently intel has not made a backwards compatible
64-bit processor, and if they do, they will likely call
it something else also. It may not be too long though,
if AMD can do it, it puts AMD ahead and Intel already has
enough trouble with AMD's competition.
