Not true. Many disk drive manufacturers realize it's in their best
interests to make this as simple as possible. Many (including Seagate,
Maxtor, and WD, but notably not IBM) either come with an installation floppy
or a copy utility that can be downloaded from their website. Turn the
computer off, install both HDs, boot from floppy, copy the entire contents
of the old disk to the new disk, remove old disk, put new disk in its place,
and reboot with the new disk.
