I just bought the ATI 9700 Pro Video Card with S-Video out. Hooked the
computer to my television and now I can play games and what not on it. The
games look great but XP looks terrible! Fonts are fuzzy and distorted. I
have a 36" RCA Television. Nothing fancy.
Besides Plasma screens, does anyone know of a television that would produce
a better looking desktop when displayed. HDTV? Wega? Component In? Something
under the $700.00 price range?

If you are using an analog video output such as RCA or S-Video then dont
expect much in fine pixel quality on any tv. These outputs are mainly
designed for large screen games or motion picture eg. movies /
visualisations.
For best performance, check the setup of you tv card to see if you are able
to adjust resolution, brightness, flicker control and output format. Nvidia
usually place these settings by opening the display applet of your control
panel, going to the settings tab, then clicking on advanced. ATI may be the
same or use a 3rd party program.

The resolution of most standard TV's is only 330 lines of resolution. Even
a low computer resolution like 640x480 will look fuzzy because the computer
is putting out 480 lines into the TV's 330. This means that you don't even
see 150 lines of the picture. Higher computer resoultions (800x600,
1024x768) make this problem look even worse.
As Ray said, the S-video and composite outputs on computer graphics cards
are not meant for much more than games, videos, or Powerpoint presentations.
If you had the money, you could get an HDTV with a DVI input and a computer
video card with a DVI output and then get high resolution computer images on
your TV.
My advice, enjoy the games on your tv but keep using a regular computer
monitor for your regular computer work.
