My new IBM ThinkPad T-40 came with MS XP Professional
installed. I'd like to partition the hard drive into C
and D (there is a hidden system drive that I assume would
be unaffected, right?). I follow instructions from
Start/Control Panel/Performance &Maintenance/Admin
Tools/Computer Management(Local)/Storage/ Disk Management.
At that point, I'm told the following: "Right-click an
unallocated region of a basic disk, and then click New
Partition . . . ." I'm baffled: Where is
this "unallocated region of a basic disk"? Where do I
find it? I've clicked right and left all over the last
screen, which has the upper and lower panes, but I cannot
discover how to fulfill this instruction. Since I'm the
only user, I think I qualify for the
necessary "administrator" rights to do this, but the last
time out of the program I saw something about "other
users." Can anyone help? I'd be grateful.
