I just purchased a new Visioneer One Touch Scanner 8900.
The Microsoft catalogue says it is "XP Compatible."
When I tried to install it the computer tells me that this
product is not certified for Windows XP. It tells me that
I may proceed with the installation but It may damage the
system now or in the future. Has anyone come across the
same or similar problem? If so, your advice will must
certainly be welcome. Thanks for your time.

Hi Al,
This warning simply means that the driver has not been certified by the WHQL
labs.
Many manufacturers do not have their drivers certified due to the expense of
certification.

Install them anyway, and then check the manufacturers websit for updates.

More of the Mickey Mouse crap. I have installed more than one item by just
ignoring this crap. A video capture card works very well. Just install it
but make sure you go to the scanners web site and download the latest
drivers.

Unattach the Visioneer from the computer and use Add/Remove to get rid
of any drivers that you may have already installed. Download the XP
drivers from www.visioneer.com first. Then temporarily disable your
anti-virus protection. Install the usb drivers. Finally connect the
scanner and re-enable anti-virus. There's a reboot in there somewhere.
Your Visioneer manual will say where.
