Hi,
Got a maxtor d740x-6l hard drive in a Optiplex gx110 dell machine it has
been working fine for 18 months but the other day it just wouldn't boot.

No changes made I think prior to this but the hard drive and others tend to
not detect in bios at all, some do however but not correctly.

Drive tested in alternate machines doesn't seem to detect but not 100% on
this yet. Cables,etc all fine.

Any suggestions?

If not does anyone know of a server with a more appropriate newsgroup for
this issue?

Anyone got a list of useful public newsgroup servers?

Hi, James.

I can't help with your actual disk problem, but on some of your related
points...

Have you tried the Usenet newsgroup alt.sys.pc-clone.dell. This is not for
official support, but there are a lot of Dell users like yourself who may
have some ideas that would help you.

That depends on which server you are using now. The Microsoft public news
server is free and does not require you to log in. Many other news
servers - some free, some not - simply "slurp" the messages and relay them,
and any responses, to and from the MS server. This can cause messages to be
delayed, out of sequence, or even missing; many such servers may carry only
some of the 2000+ NGs from the MS server.

If you are using any other news server, click here:
news://msnews.microsoft.com/microsoft.public.windowsxp.hardware

That should bring you right back here, but connected directly to the MS
server this time. Click on Newsgroups and then Reset List to be sure you
have them all and then choose the ones that interest you.

the search box!
