I purchased a Kodak digital camera and installed onto my
WinXP home edition PC. Everything worked fine until I had
to reformat and reload windows. Since then each time I
load the Kodak software and plug in my camera in the USB
port, I keep getting the found new hardware wizard which
cannot then find the appropriate software. Am i missing
certain windows drivers needed to work with digital
devices?

Please help.

If you installed the drivers correctly, then you should connect the
camera, let it be identified, and let the scanner and camera wizard
launch the autoplay menu, allowing you to select the appropriate
software. The camera must be identified and installed before launching
software so that the software can find the installed camera.

You did install the driver correctly? According to the vendor
instructions? Typically, the camera must not be attached to the
computer until after the drivers are installed. If the camera was
connected during the install, you should reinstall the driver: Connect
the camera and if found in scanners and cameras, remove it. Remove the
TWAIN from add/remove programs. Disconnect the camera. Restart.
Install the driver(s). Then connect the camera the first time.

I cannot see how that would make any difference as
everything worked fine using the kodak installation disk
the first time I installed it. The problems have only
started since I reformatted the PC and reloaded Windows,
which leads me to think maybe there are some generic
system drivers not being installed correctly which may
need updating. The question is which one(s) and where can
I find it/them?

I have a USB printer and scanner that are both working
fine. The camera is a Kodak CX4200 Easyshare camera. I
downloaded the latest V3.0 software from the kodak web
site last night and still get the same problem where it
detects new hardware when plugged in and cannot find
suitable software.

I then tried installing onto a laptop running Win98 and
this sailed through and works fine.

Thanks for your time.

The camera is not being detected in the scanner and camera
option at all. If I select add device, it simply returns a
window stating cannot find software for selected device
(although none selected) and Have Disk? If i try finding
the software on the Kodak disk, it tells me that it is not
the right software for this device, so can only assume
that it is detecting my scanner. I have done everything by
the book and am using the very latest drivers downloaded
from the Kodak site yesterday still to no avail. I can
install and use to my hearts content on a Win98 laptop.

OK, let's revert: are you absolutely, positively certain that the
drivers are XP compatible? Check Device Manager and make sure that all
devices are operating properly following the reinstall. Do you have all
of the drivers, if any, required for your mainboard, processor, etc.?

Also, from the EasyShare Faqs:

Question:

When running WINDOWS 2000 or WINDOWS XP, do I need administrator
privileges to install or use KODAK EasyShare software?

Answer: Answer last updated: 04-28-03

When using your camera or EasyShare software on computers that run
the WINDOWS 2000 or WINDOWS XP operating system, you must be logged into
the system as an administrator to both install and use the software.
Non-administrator accounts (for example, Guest) are not supported in
KODAK EasyShare software.

Also, from Kodak EasyShare Faqs:

Question:

I am having trouble installing the EasyShare software from a web
download or the CD, what do you recommend?

Answer: Answer last updated: 04-28-03

Review the following guidelines, then try installing Kodak
EasyShare software again.
Before installing Kodak EasyShare software:

a.. Important: Do not install the software with the camera
connected to the computer or in the dock. Doing so may cause the
software to be loaded incorrectly. If the camera is connected to your
computer, disconnect it before starting the installation procedure.
b.. Make sure no other applications are running. Running
applications are visible as rectangular icons in the Windows taskbar,
which is typically located at the bottom of your computer screen.
c.. To close an application that is running, right-click its
rectangular icon in the Windows taskbar, and click Close. Please turn
off virus protection applications per the above recommendations.
