View Full Version : upgrading drivers for SoundBlaster Live 5.1 for Windows XP

I would appreciate your help with the following

I have
Sound Blaster Live 5.1 sound card (Box name)
System Information > Components > Sound Device says Creative SB Live
series(WDM) 5.12.01.3509
System Properties > Device manager says Creative SB Live series(WDM)
Driver version 3509.2.0.0 Driver date 11/12/2001
The original driver was updated with a downloaded file from the
Creative web site named Rev 2 11/29/02 - Ver 3509.2.0.0. The actual
downloaded file name was SBLiveXPDrvUpdate.exe 9,255KB

Now when I go to
http://www.americas.creative.com/support/files/download2.asp?centric=107&maincat=11&os=10&subcat=16
it is unclear what file I must use to update my driver.
I read that updates are available only for those who previously
installed
LiveDrvPack.exe (SBLW-XPWEB-W3-US), posted July 17, 2002 but this file
is nowhere to be found.
Please tell me what file to use to update the driver.

Also, I could not find the driver installation instructions. Do I just
use the Upgrade Device Driver Wizard from Windows XP?

I want to update drivers because when I try to capture video from a
VCR using an ATI AIW Radeon video card and software I get scratchy
sound. However, I do not get scratchy sound if I just watch or capture
TV from a cable TV or in any other use of the sound card such as play
CDs, MP3s, DVDs, video files from disk (previously recorded before I
upgraded my ATI drivers). I had to upgrade the ATI drivers because
they no longer worked (I believe due to hotfix updates to Windows XP
SP1).

Thank you, Carlos

Read Download Selection 2: LiveDrvUni-Pack. Especially read all the section,
and make sure you follow the directions on how to check which version of
driver you currently have. If you have later revisions than what Creative
shows, do not download LiveDrvUni-Pack.exe

If you do not know what revision of drivers you currently have
installed "click here" (the link does not work).

I tried it with IE6 and Netscape 4.7. If the link works on you machine
please post the intructions here.

Regarding Section 2 it says
d. You previously downloaded and installed the first LiveDrvPack.exe,
but now wish to install a different language version of the Live!
software update.

As I said earlier I have not been able to find and have not installed
the first LiveDrvPack.exe. This section is unclear. "b. You do NOT
have the previous LiveDrvPack.exe " seems to contractict d.

Are a to d linked by "or" or "and"?

Thanks for your help.

Carlos

I got the link to work by installing Macromedia Flash Player.

However when I loook for two requested files

"Please go to [Windows Dir]\System32\drivers. Please look for the
following 2 files
- ctaud2k.sys
- ha10kx2k.sys"

These files are not in the specified rirectory or anywhere else in my
computer.
