View Full Version : Audio Hardware Dropped By XP

I have a weird problem with my SoundBlaster Audigy 2
soundcard where it is fully installed and operational
until I shutdown my computer and reboot. XP no longer
sees the card as installed, prompts me that there is a
new device and asks if I want to install, and removes the
card from the list of audio devices.
To correct this problem I have done or noted the
following:
1) Uninstalled and tried to reinstall Audigy 2. XP sees
the new device but Audigy 2 says there is no device.
2) Removed the card from PCI1 to PCI2. This enabled XP
and Audigy to see the card and installation occurs and
everything works fine but is dropped when computer is
shut-down.
3) I've called Creative (makers of Soundblaster Audigy 2)
and they said it's an XP problem because Audigy seems to
install o.k. but has "nothing to hold onto" in Windows.
4) Under the audio devices properties area of the control
panel, Windows lists the Creative Audigy Audio Processor
in the hardware tab and says it's working fine but it
doesn't appear in the dropdown list of default devices
for playback or anything.
5) There are no conflicts in IRQ, I seem to have plenty.
6) There is an internal audio device but I don't know
what role, if any, it needs to play in the processing of
audio. I tried various combinations of "Don't use this
device" or that device but didn't hit on a good
combination.
7) I did a FULL system recovery to the manufacturer's
factory settings but the same problem.

What have I missed? What, if anything, can I do!?

Looking for an audio wizard,

When you installed the new sound card, did you disable the onboard sound
through bios (if there is one), and did you check for resource conflicts?
