I am trying to disable my DMA to install a Sony DVD drive
firmware upgrade. I can't find this in the BIOS. Is there
another way to do this.
Thanks.

Um, don't disable DMA... I don't know why you want to.

Assuming you do not have the INtel Application Accelerator installed, here
is how you do it...

Right click on My Computer, click on Hardware, Click on Device Manger,Click
on IDE ATA?ATAPI controllers, Right click on the IDE channel that the Sony
drive is located on, click on advanced, and the drive(s) on that channel
will appear and indicate what mode they are currently operating in. Just
change the Sony Drive to PIO Mode only. OK out....reboot...and install the
firmware upgrade. Make sure you read the instructions and read every prompt
that comes up on the screen...if you make a mistake, the drive will be toast
and have to be sent back to Sony.

Bobby.

You have to disable it to install the firmware on the Sony drive.

Assuming you do not have the Intel Application Accelerator installed:

Go to Device Manager, click on IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers, right click on
the channel that the Sony is on, click Properties>Advanced Settings and
change the drive form Ultra DMA Mode 2 to PIO Mode only. Reboot.
Install the firmware. Make sure that you follows the directions explicitly,
and take the time to read each notice that pops up. If you make a mistake,
you'll toast the drive. You have to actually run the utility twice for the
firmware to bur. Make sure you have all other unnecessary stuff not loaded.
