View Full Version : Clearing Past Items from the Notification Area

I already have read the information in this link:

However I do not know how to get to:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curre ntVersion
\Explorer\TrayNotify

Can someone explain this to me in a more simple way?

Warning: before changing the registry back it up


start/run/Type "regedit",click "ok"

** To backup click "file"/click "export..."/give the file a name and save as type ".reg", and save in a place you can find it like "My Documents" **

click the "+" next next to HKEY_CURRENT_USER to expand (located in the left pane, second one down from "MY Computer"
click the "+" next next to "Software" to expand (might need to use the scroll bar to locate)
click the "+" next next to "Microsoft" to expand
click the "+" next next to "Windows" to expand
click the "+" next next to "CurrentVision" to expand
click the "+" next next to "Explorer" to expand
click on "TrayNotify"

right click on "IconStream" click delete
right click on "PastIconStream" click delete

close "Registry Editor"
