I can't say for the Win98 machine but in the XP
computer when you view the properties for "Local Area
Connection" in your Network Places make sure that all the
options for "This connection uses the following items"
are ticked, especially the File and Printer Sharing
selection. Make sure the eqivilant setting are enacted on
the Win98 machine.
Other than that check the status of the "Local Area
Connection" (double click on the icon), and then under
the support tab it will show you your IP address on the
network. If you're using a standard default MS network
then your IP should default as 192.168.0.# (with a subnet
mask of 255.255.255.0) where the # is any number between
1 and 255 which is unique to each machine. If either
machine is using a different IP address (i.e. if any of
the first three numbers of the Ip are different) then
they won't be able to see each other.
The default gateway should also be set with the IP
address of the machine with an active internet
connection, but as you say your internet sharing is
working that presumably is set fine.
Hope I made sense and/or helped.
Andy.
