Monitor Settings

hello... I installed windows xp on my pc and it asked at
one point "can you read this screen"... it was dim but i
COULD read the screen so i said yes. big mistake...
because i can't figure out for the life of me how to get
this monitor brightened up. OF COURSE i got to the control
panel and settings but there is just not anything there
that gets this thing brightened up... any suggestions?
