Is it possible to create a shortcut on the desktop to
turn off the computer rather than having to go via the
start menu every time?

Hope someone can help.

Many thanks,

The obvious benefit of having to go through the start menu is that you will
not accidentally turn off the pc..

There is a command to do it, but I use the free program Wizmo.exe. The
command with it is wizmo exit. Or Wizmo quiet exit if you don't want the
little wizmo sound.

Brian--

You could of course use Task Manager via rt. click task bar>task mgr.>turn
off.

*To CreateShut Down Shortcut on Desktop*

1) On the desktop, right-click and go to New, then to Shortcut.
2) You should now see a pop-up window instructing you to enter a command
line path.
3) For Win XP Use this path: SHUTDOWN -s -t 01
4) Click the "Next" button.
5) Name the shortcut and click the "Finish" button.
6) If you want a key assigned, you can also right click this
shortcut,>Properties>type in X or any letter in the Shortcut Key box.

hth,

Chad Harris

What about a desktop shortcut to restart?

if you are using winxp and your keyboard has an off key, that would be one
way to turn off your computer fast.

or you could also push the power key of your computer. most likely, the
computer will go through the shutdown process.
