I recently installed a new Maxtor Diamondmax 9 Plus 160GB
Hard Drive on my PC... Although the BIOS detects it
normally as a 163GB Hard Drive, when I format it with my
Windows XP, using NTFS, it formats and only shows as
128GB free space on the Hard Drive. I even attempted
partitioning with fdisk, formatted as 160GB, but
afterwards, it reports as having only 128GB free space
again with NTFS. Strangely enough, the same problem comes
when the disk is splitted into more than 1 partition,
which I attempted with 2 80GB partitions, and it didn't
achieve anything, as one partition formatted normally and
the other just showed as having 32GB less than the other.

It's unclear whether you're installing XP on the drive, but SP1 is
needed in order for the entire capacity of the drive to be recognized.
This means that if you use a modified XP installation CD that has been
slipstreamed with SP1, you will be able to partition the entire 160GB
capacity of the drive.
