Whenever I try to invoke run any command in the browse window, I can only
get as far as typing in a command (cmd) then my system hangs up. How can I
resolve this problem ?

The browse button is to open a window that you can use to manually navigate,
locate and select a file. The name of the selected file will be
automatically added to the Open box in the Run dialog.

If you want to type a command, just type it into the text box that is
labelled "open." For example, if you want to open the "Command Prompt"
window (the DOS emulator in XP) type in CMD and click OK.
