we have a pair of Fry's Electronics 7240M computers that
are supposedly networked together (we still haven't
figured out how to get it to work though) On my boyfriends
computer, In "my network places" i changed the ehternet
card from the one that came on the computer to the realtek
one that the phone co put in, as it is set up in my
computer, almost immediately i got an error message from
microsoft. then 5 days later, his computer locked up and
now just continually cycles thru the start up cycle, we
very briefly see the BSOD, but only for a split second,
could changing the ethernet card do this? If so, how do
we fix it? The only cd we have for the computer is a
recovery cd, and we can't afford to lose the info we
currently have on the system, which if we use the cd, it
will erase everything!!

Hello
Well try and download the correct drivers for your network
card from the internet, or replace both network card with a
different brand. I would remove both cards, and see if the
cpu's boot safely, give that a try.

thanks for your help, however we cannot even get past the
start up screen before the computer restarts itself. So
getting into the internet is impossible at this point.

Hi
remove both cards, restart your pc, and then press F8 and
go into safe mode and hopefully you should be able to remove
the network cards. Once done reboot again and lets see if the
pc continue's to reboot after that
