Hi
I recently bought a new soundcard as I was having
problems with running dvd and sounds on my dvd player.
Since buying it, I haven't had a problem but I attempted
to download the update for the soundcard driver but half
way through my pc crashed.
Since then I have got no sound what so ever and I can't
redo the download even though microsoft shows on the
download history that I had attempted to download the
update but failed.
Any ideas on how to redo the download or to get my sound
back...its soooooooo annoying.
And yes, I have troubleshooted the pc and it says the
soundcard is there and working but when I attempt to play
music on windows media it gives me this message...
0xC00D11BA: Cannot play the file
please reply...I am getting desperate

Go into Device manager and delete the card. If there's an entry for a game
port, delete that as well. Then re-boot. Let us know what happens, OK?

Hi Ron
Well I have unistalled (delete option was not available)
both game and sound card from the pc, rebooted, re
installed the soundboard info cd and restarted.
I then checked control panel and I still have no audio
device and in properties of sound and audio on the audio
section it says modem#4 Line Record.
Sigh... any other ideas??

Don't rely on the update drivers at the windows update site.
Go to the sound card mfr website and download drivers from
there then install them.

Jeepers. I cannot imagine how there could be a modem-related entry in the
sound section of DevMgr. That said, problems like this are awfully
difficult to diagnose remotely.
Let's start with the brand name and model of the soundcard, OK? Also - in
case it comes up somehow - do you have an integrated modem or a PCI modem?
Also, you said that you got this card recently. What were you using for
sound before this card? I ask because if you have integrated sound, it
would be advisable to disable that in the system BIOS to avoid sound
processing-related conflicts.
Back to you.

Before I was using the onbard soundcard using via 97
drives VIA technology. It is disabled and was disabled
when the pc crashed.
