In South Africa, our monopoly ADSL Telkom provider caps accounts to 3GIGs a month, after which you can barely access any web-related service. So a company http://www.nocap.co.za sponsored a proxy based access on our existing ADSL line that eliminates the T
elkom cap (proxy url http://www.nocap.co.za/proxy1.pac in Connections Tab IE 6SP1 in AutoScript, with AutoDetect disabled). It is configured as follows:
1. Open Internet Explorer
2. Click on Tools Menu.
3. Click on Internet Options.
4. Click on Lan Settings if your using a Router or
select your Dialup account and click Settings
5. Click Use automatic configuration script.
6. Type http://www.nocap.co.za/proxy1.pac for the R399 Server or http://www.nocap.co.za/proxy2.pac for the R999 option or Proxy adr. specified on signup.
7. Click OK then OK again
Thats it.
Close internet Explorer Disconnect from the internet and reconnect. When your Browser opens you will be prompted for your username and password specified by you.
On Registration The Direct connect Adr for Socks5 port 1080 will be given.
However, the following access issues have manifested themselves:
MSN Messenger 6.1 - with every tried config in its access option dialogue - refuses to log-in. I can only access hotmail directly through the MSN web site.
I cannot log into any newsgroups.
Anti-Virus - AVG Pro - refuses to download updates.
No issues with web based or FTP transfers/downloads/uploads, whether in IE, Opera or Netscape.
ICQ has no connectivity problems whatsoever and loads instantly and functionally. Will try download other chat/messenger progs and test.
I am connected to the web via Windows XP Professional on a AMD 1000Mhz 256MB PC with 100GIG Hardrive (60GIG & 40GIG) with an external Netstar DG814 modem. I must stress that except for the above issues, the NoCap proxy performs almost flawlessly and at max
speed of 512k despie my 3GIG cap expiry for April.
