I am using a Sony DVD-RW and XP Home edition. I am trying
to format a CD-RW on this drive to use it like a 3.5"
floppy. I can't find the appropriate choice from the
autoplay menu. Is there another way to format this CD-RW?

I believe you're looking for packet writing, which can be accomplished by
Roxio and other CD writing software.

open My computer, right click on the drive's icon, and you should have the
options to format and use the drive with DLA. If these options are not
present, you need to install the packet writing software that came with the
drive.

Finally back in town to work on this. Could you advise on
the abbreviation DLA. What does it stand for, and is it
found in the Properties tab?

I don't know what it stands for, but one the HP website, there is DLA
sofware to allow you to format a CD to let the system read and write to it
like a floppy disk. It was a software package about 6.5Megs long.

DLA= Drive Letter Assignmet and is a "Layer" application that allows you to
use a rewritable CD as if it were a regular removable disc drive. This is
referred to as "Packet Writing". Make sure, when using DLA, that you tell
the drive to use UDF when ejecting the disc...otherwise it may not be able
to be read on other computers. If you use the disc created by DLA on a
nother computer, you must have a UDF reader instlled on that drive.
