I am trying to transfer a large file from another pc using a direct cable
connection. The new machine (guest) has XP and the older one (host) Win 98.
The connection was set up and both pc connected via the cable but I can't
read the folders on the host. I have checked that the folders on the host
are all shared but they just don't appear and so can't be copied. Any
ideas?

Direct cable? That means, of course, that you stuck a bare wire in a hole in
each computer - right?

Now, if you will explain exactly how you are trying to do this, ie: USB,
Firewire, parallel port, crossover cable, maybe someone can help you.

We should not have to pull teeth to get you to give us sufficient
information to assist you.

Many people, including myself, will jump right past a post such as this,
without even trying to deduct what you are trying to accomplish - and how!
