On a Windows XP Home system, can anyone tell me the proper proceedure for
completely removing hardware devices?
Should I remove the device from device manager first, then use Add/Remove
Programs to remove the associated software, then power down and physically
remove the hardware.
Or is there a better way?
I believe that Windows 98 had a bad habit of maintaining ghost devices in
device manager that could only be seen while booted in Safe Mode and might
still cause conflicts.
What is the proper proceedure in sequence for a WinXP Home system?
My OS is fairly young and I'd like to do this right and be done with the old
hardware. My old device is a DirecPC USB Satellite modem. My new "upgrade
device" will be a DSL modem on a new NIC card.

Thanks For Any Advice!
Richard
