I am trying to upgrade from an AMD Duron / 1.2 gig to a
Intel P4 / 2 gig using my original hard drive. After post
I am prompted to select the options of "start windows
normally, safe mode, last known good config., ect. The
c.p.u. appears to freeze. Is this a problem with the
Intel 2.0A processor?
XP home
DDR 266 / 384 m.b.
2/30 gig Western Digital
Geforce 2Ti
Old MSI KT3 Ultra / New Soyo P4VDA

You will have to do a repair install for it to work properly.
I just did that on mine to correct the new motherboard with old hard
drive.

Did you reinstall the operating system after changing processors and
mainaboard, or at least do an in-place upgrade so that WinXP can redetect
all your hardware? WinXP will not boot after changing motherboards and
processors (especially from AMD to Intel) unless you do one of the above
operations.

Thanks, I should have known, maybe thinking that XP would
be able to handle the the new board. Thanks again

It doesn't have anything to do with xp not being able to "handle" the new
board.
It has to do with xp's feature of not allowing one copy of xp to be
installed on
multiple computers.

It won't boot because the switch from AMD to Intel involves
so many driver changes that it can't boot without doing a
re-install

When you do a re-install you'll need to reactivate.

Greetings --
That's completely wrong. It has everything to do with the
hardware change and the lack of the correct device drivers in the
current WinXP installation. WPA wouldn't even enter into the equation
until after the OS has booted.
