Hi,
Having problems configuring 2XP's and 1 Win98 machine
for home networking. No sign that they recognize each
other. Setup is Cablemodem to Linksys router to 10baseT
hub to computers. Norton Internet security on each
machine. I've entered a range of ip's into Norton to
accept machines through firewall. Set up each computer
enabling file sharing through IPX and disabling sharing
through TCP. All have same workstation name as installed
using netsetup floppy made on one of the xp machines.
Network troubleshooter says possible problem with
computers having same name but this is not so. Any ideas?

Have you tried disabling the Norton Internet Security on all the machines?

If all the computers have the same "workstation" name, then you do
have a problem. Each computer should have it's own unique workstation
name.

They do, however, have to all be part of the same "workgroup."

With my Linksys router I had to turn off the XP built in firewall. I don't
have Norton Security so I am not sure about that. The router is a firewall
too. Try turning off Norton and the XP firewall and see what happens.

I'm running the XP firewall on both my machines, along with ZA Pro,
and they can both access the net and talk to each other with zero
problems.

Well, then why not tell the orignal poster how to do it with his Linksys
Router.
