HELP!!!! PLEASE!!!! :)

We have fry's electronics 7240M, My boyfriend got a stop
code error of C0000218, i have looked it up, but the XP HE
that we have is from an OEM, and the only disk we have is
a recovery cd, which wipes out all programs that we
installed after we bought the system. It does NOT have
recovery console on it, nor can we boot it in safe mode,
last known are anything else. If i download the setup XP
disks from microsoft, will we be able to pull only the
files we need to correct the systemroot/system/config32
etc.. file, or will it also erase everything, just like
the recovery cd.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

There is no "download" for any Windows OS. (some exceptions
may apply at various times).

You might be able to browse the Fry's restore disk using the
command line function.

Start/run (type) cmd, which opens the command (DOS-like)
window.
type sfc /scannow to start the system file checker. Have
the restore disk in the drive and browse to the i386 folder.

Thank you!
If I do this on my computer ( which has xp pro) will it
hurt my system any? My computer is working great, and I
don't want to do anything to mess it up!

sfc /scannow will do nothing unless there is a corrupt or
missing file. Works on either XP Home or Pro same way, use
the proper version, don't use a home when you have pro.

then sfc /?

Thank You Jim,
It looks like no go then, the recovery cd is home and I
have pro, the cd is for my boyfriens comp which has home,
but we can't load anything right now, it continually
circle thru the start up program.
