Hi

I know that this topic has been raised before, but as yet I don't see any
answers to the problem. Windows XP has seems to have a BIG problem with SCSI
DAT tape drives. I just installed a new Compaq SDT-9000 DDS3 4mm DAT tape
drive to my XP machine. The windows backup program does not work because the
backup program reports that there is no tape in the drive, I've been all
through the SCSI set up routine and I know the tape drive is working becuase
I have it making backup and restore jobs with TapeWare 6.3. I already
returned one tape drive to the supplier because of this problem.

So far TapeWare is the only program I can find that will work with XP, I
really want to use the Windows XP backup program rather than use another
third party program.

I know that there are others who are having the same problems as me, they
are not getting any answers either. Are they all just gonna give up and use
third party backup software? Surely someone at Microsoft must know what the
problem is? Come on guys please come up with some solution for us poor
suckers who bought XP in the hope that it would be at least as good as 98.

Thanks in humble anticipation...

Martin

You might try the drivers at the following site:

logon is drivers
password is all

They are NT drivers but might work with xp.

http://www.storagedrivers.com/drivers/48/48206.htm

I would propose that it is NOT an ms problem but a refusal by compaq to
upgrade their drivers to xp.

Something goes wrong in Timbuktu, blame Bush. ( Yes, there really IS a
Timbuktu in Mali, Africa. )
Something goes wrong on your computer, blame Microsoft, huh?

All Windows built-in backup program (3.11, 9x, ME, 2000) have always had
problems with SCSI based tape drive. Most of the time, I have seen that the
problem is relate to the SCSI ASPI drivers. make sure your are correctly
loading the SCSI ASPI drivers for your SCSI host adapter.

Most third party Windows backup systems do not rely on the ASPI drivers but
use their own drivers.
