View Full Version : Activation after hard disk replacement?

My hard disk failed and had to be replaced.
Prior to it failing completely, I made a backup of it's
entire contents including the system state information.
After replacing the hard disk, I re-installed Windows XP
but I didn't activate it.
I restored my system, including the system state from the
backup and after rebooting, it popped up and said I had 18
days to activate XP.
I got XP through the microsoft for Partners ActionPack
which had two Product Key codes which were good for 5
activations each.
Does this new activation subtract from my previous
activation such that I now have only 3 activations left
with that Product key instead of 4?
Thanks
Edwin

You should be able to re-activate this XP installation. Microsoft has a
phone number that you could call for more info. I do not know this number.
If you would to do new "activation" then yes, this will subtract for you
activation count!

Thanks for the reply.
By Re-activate I assume that you mean that the original
activation is updated with the new hardware.
I have never had a WinXP system with a "normal" activation
so this is all new to me.
The number I called was a robot voice which didn'd give me
any clue as to whether it was a re-activation or a NEW
activation. I guess when I try to use the remaining
activations I will find out.
