Hi
I recently bought a new soundcard as I was having
problems with running dvd and sounds on my dvd player.
Since buying it, I haven't had a problem but my husband
attempted to download the update for the soundcard driver
but half way through my pc crashed.
Since then I have got no sound what so ever and I can't
redo the download even though microsoft shows on the
download history that I had attempted to download the
update but failed.
Any ideas on how to redo the download or to get my sound
back...its soooooooo annoying.
And yes, I have troubleshooted the pc and it says the
soundcard is there and working but when I attempt to play
music on windows media it gives me this message...
0xC00D11BA: Cannot play the file
My pc runs on windows XP. My new soundcard is a creative
soundblaster 4.1 soundcard. My old soundcard used via 97
drivers V.I.A. technology. It has been disabled.
Tried system restore to a range of dates prior to
attempted installation of download with no result.
Via device manager, it states there is no sound device
and in audio and voice also states modem 4#line
playback/record depending on what box you look at.
We have attempted to uninstall, disable, remove and
reinstall but to no avail.
Help would be great cause this is getting really
frustrating now.
cheers
Hayley

Don't trust the 3rd party driver updates on the ms site. They create
problems rather than fix them.

Go to the site of your sound card mfr and download the latest
winxp drivers and software for your device. Read the instructions
on how to install the hardware and software.

Uninstall all of your sound card software and remove the device
from device manager.

Follow the instructions you read at the site as to how to reinstall
your sound card drivers and software.
