I have four systems. One older one only has a serial port for connecting a
mouse. I've been using a MS Intellipoint PS2 mouse on it for years using a
PS2/Serial port adaptor. It works OK.

I just bought a MS Optical Wheel mouse from Best Buy for $6.99 after the
mail-in rebate. It has a USB plug on it's cord, but comes with a PS2
adaptor. I tried it on the computer using the USB-to-PS2 adaptor and the
PS2-to-Serial port adaptors. Stretching things a bit, I know.

Anyway, it doesn't work. Running Win98SE on this machine. Any suggestions? I
heard that these PS2-to-Serial port adaptors can be different.

Thanks for any replies!

You could buy a USB adapter card to install in a PCI slot of your computer
for about $15 + shipping (Newegg). Then plug the new MS mouse directly into
the USB socket, plus use any other USB devices you want.

I'd suggest an add-in USB card. You can get 2 port and 4-port models.
They come with software that should be compatable with most the latest
versions of windows.
