View Full Version : WIN XP or POS?

I have been using XP for 3 days- brand new system.

Here's what I see:

1: Windows explorer- some file directories appear to duplicate
themselves. I will see an entry two or three times. This gives me a warm
happy feeling about what may be happening to the File allocation tables.

2: The A: drive affixes itself to the first floppy and will not refresh
itself if you put another A: Floppy in. Hitting "refresh" will not budge
the floppy- it still remembers the first 3.5 disk inserted.

3: Word 2000 docs, even when closed- can not be moved- because XP still
thinks they are opened. I am in the process of writing performance reviews
for employees, and as I save and close them, I move them to a "completed"
directory. I get the message that the file cannot be moved because the file
is in use byWord. (Word has been shut down, and the file previously
closed).

4: Opening word docs: The first time I open a file I emailed from work- I
get the message that the file is in use by another user and do I want to
read only or notify.....

What is going on here???
This is not a well-behaved operating system like W98 or W2000. It seems
very buggy after only about 3 days use.

BTW-- its home XP sp1

XP is a multi-user OS, even if you are the only user with a
logon shown. There are default administrator accounts which
can be accessed. Because of this there will be an "all
users" folder and a "x user" for each account.

If you are using FAT32 you are missing one of the big
advantages of XP, the NTFS files system. Convert to NTFS,
if you are not already using NTFS.

What system (make /model) are you using? It may be that the
OEM who installed your OS and programs has set some
defaults. I suggest you call the OEM support and ask them
or RTFactoryM.

The drive is NTFS.
I am not talking about multi-user double-listings. If I scroll in Win
Explorer to a subdirectory in My Documents called "Work", another called
"Work" appears directly below. Both contain the same duplicate subdirectory
entries.

I just get the feeling from what I see in this ng that XP was/is not quite
ready for prime time yet.

This is called a support newsgroup. It is like saying that a car is not
ready for a road because it is in a garage having repairs done to it.

How about buying a car marketed as road worthy, that can't get out of the
garage for long?
