I have a LaCie IEEE 1394 disk drive. I plug in the
firewire cable and it shows up on the device manager.
Why can't I see it as a map drive anywhere else? It just
doesn't show up.

From device manager, I see that it is not intialized and
the partition style is "Not Applicable".

I am lost as I have search for IEEE 1394 drivers all over.
What could be the problem?????

I was able to get to it a couple of days earlier where I
moved files onto it. I have a Windows XP Home edition
running.

Is the drive brand-new? ...or was it previously used? If used previously
in a system other than your own that may have some influence on how Windows
XP handles the partition(s) on the drive. If the drive is "used" when you
connect it to the firewire card in your machine, Windows reads the header
information on the drive to determine its type and all other parameters. If
it sees partitions that are already present on the drive, it will try to
enumerate those partitions with drive letters to make them accessible to the
rest of the operating system. ...so if it's a used drive, where did it come
from? i.e. what kind of system? PC? MAC? etc...
