WORD is a part of the OFFICE suite of programs, each is
available separately. It is cheaper to buy the whole suite
than individual applications. It is also less expensive to
buy software as part of a bundle when you buy a computer.
But applications are not part of Windows and you have to
ask, salesmanship is a dead art often these days.
The least expansive way to get WORD is to buy the WORKS
SUITE which includes WORD because so many people want the
program. It is even less expensive than WORD alone.
WORKS includes a basic spreadsheet and a simple database
program and calendar. But if you need a more functional
array of programs, Office is the standard in most
businesses.

Greetings --
Microsoft Word would have come pre-installed on your new computer
_only_ if you'd specifically ordered and paid for either Word, a
version Microsoft Office, or the Microsoft Works Suite at the time you
ordered/purchased the computer. There is no "30 day period" during
which you can obtain Word free-of-charge.
Neither the Microsoft Office application suite, nor any of its
individual component applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access,
Outlook, etc.), have _ever_ been "part" of any Windows operating
system. They are, and always have been, separate applications, that
must be purchased and installed separately.
