Hayley I'm sorry that you felt it necessary to RE-post a message calling for
help. It was only the day before yesterday that you posted for the first
time, and you received two responses immediately. We were just getting into
the issue, and here you are starting a new thread.
While I realize that these problems are frustrating, it seems like a slap in
the face to those individuals who offered assistance in the first place.
It's as though you were not getting satisfaction fast enough...so you just
abandoned us to cry anew.
Good luck.

OK. Hayley - the new s/c is a SB 4.1, isn't it? There is a 24MB (approx)
driver archive file on the Creative website for your card. I realize you're
having problems. You need to physically remove the card. Then reboot and
see if you have an UNinstall utility (originating with Creative) already on
your comp. I mean an UNinstaller for the software. If not, then search the
hard drive for anything pertaining to SB, or Surround, or EAX, or
Creative...and delete all of it manually.
Then enter DevMgr and uninstall the card and the game port if it's showing
there. Then do this:
Open a command prompt and type this (without quotes):
"set DEVMGR_SHOW_NONPRESENT_DEVICES=1" <enter>
"devmgmt.msc" <enter>
Then select View, and "Show hidden devices" and you will see nonpresent
devices. If you see ANYTHING related to Creative, or Soundblaster...remove
it.
Reboot. Snoop around some more to see if you missed anything the first
time. Shut down and install card. ASAP after restarting, launch the
self-extracting archive you downloaded.
(Make sure speakers are properly connected & alive. Also that volume of
speakers AND vol in XP is up...)
Back to you.

Hi Ron
I have tried what you offered with still no result. After
some jiggling around, I realised that it wasn't a
soundcard problem but a XP problem.
I uninstalled windows XP and re installed it (and yes its
an aggro as I have to update it all again! LOL) but it
works!! I am not sure but all the original settings work,
the sound card works and no mix up.
Thank you so much for you help and patience Ron and
others. Between us, we cured it! HURRAH!!
thanks
Hayley

Hmm. Kinda makes me wish I'd been there to see you "jiggling around"! In
any case...good show, and it was nice of you to follow up.
Cheers!
Ron
