View Full Version : xp critical update crashed my hard drive

I installed update 811493 and it made all my programs
really slowly - a few of my friends also had this problem,
so they uninstalled it. When I try and boot up, it
says "720 harddrive imminent failure" and will not boot
up. I put in the XP Pro cd to reinstall, but there's no
way to do so without losing everything. Any suggestions
on how to access my hard drive and uninstall the critical
update or repair my harddrive?

Thanks,

Rick

Rick;
Your problem is different and not related to the update, they just
happened about the same time.
The message is telling you your hard drive has a physical problem and
is about to fail.
Back-up important data immediately as the life of the drive may be
anywhere from seconds to weeks.
Contact the computer manufacturer for proper diagnostics and hard
drive replacement if in warranty.

Rick;
The best thing to do is get the replacement hard drive.
Then install the replacement drive, get it loaded etc.
Connect the old drive as a slave and copy your important data from the
old to the new.

You may need to take Ownership;

Anything else you try may use what little life the drive has thus
causing loss of all data.
