if i try and run "bootcfg /scan" it fails and says the
file system is corrupt and to run chkdsk to see what's
wrong with the drive, but that only gets 45% done and then
tells me parts of my hard drive are not repairable. I
think I need a disk to somehow force my computer to load,
but I'm not sure what would do that, then I could
uninstall the update and hope it works.

Please...any suggestions, I'd really appreciate it.

Jupiter Jones gave you the best suggestion. Your hard drive is failing - and
it may die soon. Running check disk on a failing drive is not to be
recommended as the only outcome is, most likely, complete failure and the
loss of all data. You have one choice, pray the drive is still under
warranty (most newer drives only have a year) and get a replacement. The
problem here is that you need a replacement /before/ you send that one away
(all manufacturers will demand the failing drive back). If it isn't under
warranty, then you'll just have to bite the bullet and purchase a new
drive - the newer Hitachi drives are excellent. Once you have the new drive
set up (install it as the master and the failing one as the slave), you need
to install Windows on it and then partition it with something like Partition
Magic 8 (www.powerquest.com). Back up all data to the partition you just
created.

Then, I'm afraid, you need to have that other drive destroyed safely. Do NOT
put it out for regular refuse collection. Hard drives must be destroyed
properly - I believe they are incinerated.
