I have a couple problems. I have a wireless linksys network adapter
and a wired 3Com network adapter. Both are PCI. Windows XP.

I plug them into their respective slots and boot up the PC. No "New
Hardware" prompt loads on my machine. No network adapter is listed in
device manager. ipconfig at cmd prompt says nothing.

Furthermore, 3com card was working well, took it out of the slot, put
it back in and now have this problem. The wireless card I tested and
worked on another XP machine. I thought it was the slot I was using,
but I've tried it in every PCI slot including one's that were working
for sound.

System: PII 350 mmx, Abit BX6 motherboard, 4 PCI, 1 AGP

I have absolutley run out of idea's short of buying a new motherboard,
and I don't even know if that's necesarily the problem. Any other
information can be provided if I left it out. Thanks

1) Have you tried one at a time?

2) Do you have PnP OS enabled in BIOS? If yes, then try specifying No.

3) Are devices listed w/ yellow questions marks in device manager?

4) Any other PCI devices on the system that are currently functioning?

5) Done anything unusual lately, like a BIOS update?

6) Any other PCI cards around to try, even another NIC, ANYTHING?

Jim

I have tried one at a time.

I think I've tried it with PnP os as disabled first then switched it
to enabled. Which should it be?

No question marks

Yes, sound card PCI working

One time tried to switch the bios to PnP PCI

I had another suggestion to boot up in safe mode because the drivers
may be hidden, uninstall them then re-install this is what happens:

When I do the safe mode routine. Sure enough, there were many network
adapters listed. The problem is for all of them, I right click
Uninstall but it says "Failed to uninstall this device. Device may be
needed to boot up the computer". The devices are listed below:

1. 3Com
2. Direct Parrallel
3. WAN Miniport (IP)
4. WAN Miniport (IP) - Deterministic Network Enhancer Miniport
5. WAN Miniport (IPX)
6. WAN Miniport (IPX) - Deterministic Network Enhancer Minipoirt
7. WAN Miniport (L2TP)
8. WAN Miniport (PPPOE)
9. WAN Miniport (PPTP)
