View Full Version : Problem with 2 network cards

The PC in question has 2 network cards, a 100baseT which
connects to an ADSL router, and a 10baseT combo card for
connection to a thinwire ethernet lan. Running Windows 98,
the PC could access both the internet and the lan.
I upgraded the PC to XP professional. Now the only way to
access the lan is by disabling the ADSL network card. In
other words, XP is sending lan requests to the wrong card.
Both cards have TCP/IP and Netbuei bound to them. I have
tried changing the binding priority to no avail. Any ideas
would be greatly appreciated

Are the cards from different manufacturers?

Check your routing table to verify, at a command window type:
route PRINT >route.txt
If you're dual-booting and have the Win98 routing table handy, print it too.
Cut-n-paste the file contents in your reply.
Btw, no need for NetBEUI on the WAN side, NetBEUI is strictly a local,
non-routable protocol. This might be part of your problem. Don't strictly
need NetBEUI on the LAN side either, TCP/IP will do, but shouldn't hurt
either, may actually be more efficient than TCP/IP for LAN traffic.
