Are you formatting while in windows? If so use a boot
disk, it worked for me.

You need to boot from your Windows XP cd and when prompted for the location
you have to first select to DELETE the partition where it is currently
installed and then install it in to that new partition...if left
unformatted, the Installation procedure will automatically format it first
then install XP.
