You're right! I setup windows xp a few days ago and forgot to configure
that....
sorry! And I really didn't know that it's bad to cross-post sorry.... I just
hoped that this way it will be answered quickly. :(
I swear it won't happen again! ;)

But if you must cross post then at least be selective on which newsgroups
you pick. For example, you are running XP so don't post to the NT
newsgroups. Also, in addition to it being bad netiquette to crosspost many
news servers filter out messages that are cross posted to too many groups.
So not only is it bad form but you run the risk of not everyone seeing your
message.

So pick a group, lurk for a while to see if your message is on-topic and
then post.

One thing that was not mentioned (if it is, I missed it), an
improperly set date/time can cause problems.
You may have problems at Windows Update, sites with secure log-ins to
start with.
Setting the correect date/time is often a good first troubleshooting
step.

Speaking of time, there are several time servers. If you
have trouble connecting to one you can select your choice.
If you input the IP address rather than the URL you'll avoid
DNS errors.

It's not bad netiquette to cross post, it's bad to cross post to so many at
a time. 3 groups related to the subject is usually the accepted suggested
limit. It is also not a waste of band width, as the post is only listed on
the server once and referenced to the other groups.
Most of the future posts are made for exactly the same reason as yours. They
forget to set the time zone during the setup and it defaults to the Pacific
time zone.

I do suggest you repost the question as many people that frequent the
newsgroups delete future posts.

Despite many people complaining about it, it's *not* bad to
crosspost. Crossposting to a *few* related groups is fine, and is
far preferable to multi-posting, posting the same message
separately to more than one group. Multi-posting just wastes
bandwidth and fragments the thread.

The reason crossposting gets its bad reputation is that many
people use it to spam. If you're sending the same message to many
unrelated groups, it's almost always for spamming purposes.
*That* is bad, but not all crossposting is.
