After recent re-install of XP, my CDR is very sluggish.
This is a fairly new (Feb) Pine 56x. Some programs are
taking up to an hour to install from the CD. XP did not act
like this before. Any suggestions?

Try this: If you are using third-party burning software, turn off XP's
native CD burning functionality.
