I recently upgraded my Windows ME to XP Home and things
were going pretty smoothly until it didn't boot up one
day. Said the c:\windows\system32\config\system file was
missing or corrupted. I finally managed to get it back
up and running using the steps in MS Bulletin, however
there was no system volume information folder at all on
the C:\ drive and I ended up doing a Windows XP reinstall
(nope - didn't reformat, just reinstalled in place to
retain programs/documents etc. Now when I shut down, I'm
getting a message referencing END PROGRAM HPOEVMOB.EXE.
Just what is HPOEVMOB.EXE? and where do I look for it to
remove it? Thanks.

Check your startup settings to find out what is causing this.
Applications that start with Windows can be found here:
- the WIN.INI, section [windows], entries "run=" and "load="
- the Registry keys
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curre ntVersion\Run
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curr entVersion\Run
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curr entVersion\RunServices
- the folders
C:\DOCUMENTS AND SETTINGS\ALL USERS\START MENU\PROGRAMS\STARTUP
C:\DOCUMENTS AND SETTINGS\{username}\START MENU\PROGRAMS\STARTUP
