After performing a clean install of XP Home Edition on my
pc, I can't open any file from the DVD drive, although I
can sometimes open some subdirectories. Error message I
often get is "The request could not be performed because
of an I/O device error".

I have already updated the motherboard bios and dvd-rom
firmware, and install all XP's patches. And finally, I
took the drive out and plugged into my other pc running
W98 and it worked perfectly. Can anyone advise anything?

Hardware list:
AMD Athlon XP2000+
Elite(ECS) K7VZA motherboard
512M ram
IBM 20G and 60B HD
LG dvd-rom drive (not-working on Secondary Master IDE)
Memorex cd/r/rw (working on Secondary Slave IDE)

Appreciate any help.

A couple of things off the top of my head:

1) The DVD Drive isn't compatable with XP.
2) There aren't any DVD codecs installed on this machine
3) Have you tried plugging another DVD/CD drive into the problem machine to
see if it's not a cable or MB issue?
