Hi,
About four months ago, I have faced the similar problems
but it was even worse in my case, my IBM deskstar HD died
immediately. I lost all the data files, music collections
and all the pictures. As I use Fat 32 system, I tried to
use some dos programs to retrieve the files. I could call
back some of the files but most of them were fragmented
and useless.
So I would suggest you to buy a new harddisk and backup
all your important files before it is too late.
BTW, you can use some HD utility tools to check your HD.
You can download it from the manufacturer's webiste or do
a google search. Also, format HD and clean install of XP
from scratch is recommended.
