Following extensive problems with new computer running XP
(I think I have seen every possible Stop error), I
replaced the RAM in the PC this morning but when trying to
load XP from CR-Rom, it gets as far as the screen which
reads "please wait while set-up formats the partition" C:
partition1 New (raw) .... on 39206MB disc 0 at ID0 on bus
0 on Atapi [CDR] and just stays there reading "Set up is
formatting....0%".
I have a Gigabyte GA-7VA motherboard and Athlon XP2400+
2.01 processor with new 512MB RAM (from Crucial).
I've tried re-starting a few times without success - any
ideas please?

Depending on your system, a full format can take a very long time.
Have you just let it set and see if the numbers increase? At least 1/2
hour?
Is it the only HDD with the jumper and cable position in agreeance?

What kind of HDD, please? Also, you should likely enter the BIOS during
boot-up, and use the "Set defaults" function to ensure RAM stability (plus a
whole lot more). Likely this will solve your problems, and once XP is on,
you can carefully tweak BIOS settings one at a time.

Please post a follow-up.
