I work in a school and we have not long since updated to
Windows XP, we have about 1000 users all with individual
log ons.
Now here is where the problems come into play when a user
logs onto the systems it loads up their desktops and main
screen. then when they click on start, programs sometimes
it takes a long time for the programms to come up but not
all of the time. When it does take a long time it seems as
if XP Freezes then all of a suddent it will open them and
run okay or maybe just a little slow i was wondering if
anyone could help with this problem i would be greatfull
if you could.
Thanks a lot Matt

If all 1,000 users are logging in at once, does that means
you have 1,000 computers in your network?
Are all programs installed locally, on the user's computer
or are some or all programs on the server? How many
computers on a segment (node) of your network? Are you
using hubs, switches or routers to create nodes?
You could have software issues with XP compatibility, or you
could have network issues with any or all problems with
network architecture (too many computers on a node causing
too many data collisions requiring retransmission of data.
segmentation of the network, use of switches to control
network load sharing,)
If you're running a wired network, check condition of the
wire with testers to be sure that the cable is in good
condition.
Make sure your server software is XP compatible and each
computer is properly configured with compatible hardware and
software protocols.
It is just a guess on my part, some of your programs are
running on the server and your logons are not on the local
(user's individual machine) but on the network server.
