I cannot open my port when i dial up my modem. My computer
is a laptop and was connect through COM3 when I had
Windows ME, i upgraded to XP but not cannot connect to the
Web. When I try and re-install my modem it only lets me do
it to COM Port 1 ( which i dont think has my modem on).
Any help most appreciated. Thanks.

If com1 is disabled in bios then com1 is ok for your modem. The
actual com port # is all but moot. The resources, ( irq and io
range, ) are what is more important. As long as there are no
resource conflicts then the com port is immaterial. Does COM1
show up in Ports, com and lpt in device manager?
