I have a cd r/rw drive that I can not record to. I have
upgraded from 98 second ed. to XP Pro. The cd r/rw
stopped working just before the upgrade. I was told that
XP should regocnize the cd r/rw and make it work. This
has not happened.

It is a stock cd r/rw in a Compaq Presario model 7940.
Device Manager Properties say that it is an IDE-CD R/RW
4x4x24. What Can I do to make this thing work? Does
Microsoft have anything that will help me. Is there a
3rd party program/driver that will make it work.

I have looked on the Microsoft Hardware compatibilty
list, but I find it very confusing. I am not experienced
with how to use this list.

Thanks!!

Christopher

What software were you running to burn CDs? Make sure the software is
compatible with XP.

Christopher prematurely pulled the chain & typed:

I doubt if you like this advice but... backup all you need, consider
running Files & Settings Transfer Wizard, reformat & do a clean install
using your upgrade disc. Much work to start with but greater stability
not having any residual of a previous OS's drivers messing things up.

You state the CDRW stopped working /before/ the upgrade. Time to buy
something a wee bit faster than a 4x4x24?
